Matrix III Cisplatin Beads

INDICATION: Equine sarcoids

DESCRIPTION:Resorbable MIII Cisplatin beads are spherical (3mm diameter) and contain 7% by wt. cisplatin (diaminedichloroplatinum, CAS# 15663-27-1). Other components include calcium sulfate hemihydrate and dextran sulfate. Average bead weight is 23mg.

STORAGE: Store in the dark at room temperature. Shelf life is at least one year.

USAGE: Intra lesional installation produces high local levels of cisplatin with minimal toxicity. Hewes and Sullins have described the use of MIII Cisplatin beads in treating equine cutaneous tumors (Hewes, CA and Sullins, KE (2006) JAVMA, 229, 1617-1622). Prior studies in vivo indicate that the resorption time is 4-5 weeks and local inflammation is tolerable and transient.

MIII Cisplatin beads are not approved for use in human patients.
